In Scripture Forge, a segment could be a verse of Scripture or a part of a verse. For example, a verse could have some text, a quote, and then more text. In this case, the verse would have three segments.
When administrators review the progress, they learn the number of verses (segments) that have any text (translation) and the total number of segments in each book. A circular progress indicator offers a graphical representation of those numbers.
